You Know:

You know when you're blog is dead when out of your 391 followers,  only 4 have entered to win a free, signed copy of Ally Carter's 3rd Gallagher Girl book, Don't Judge a Girl By Her Cover.

Giveaway ends November 22, 2013. Find the post, enter to win.

11/4 Edit: Yeah so I realize that seems kind of whinny. What I wrote. But I would just like to say that the last time we gave away an Ally Carter book, we had 103 entries. Before that we gave away Terrier by Tamora Pierce and that had 151 entries.

But now we're at 12 last time I checked! Woohoo! Except I guess now you're chances to win have been lowered. Whoops.

Donating a Scribbled Book

We're trying to see how many active followers we have. If you're reading this, then you have the opportunity for us to donate to you this book: A copy of Don't Judge a Girl By Her Cover by Ally Carter. There's a page where the author just scribbled her name on it so we are donating it to one lucky person.

In an attempt to keep this for active followers, we are trying to stay away from certain words. We are not even going to label it correctly. As you may have noticed. That's why we are not asking you to share anything, but you can if you want. We like new followers too.

The donating form opens on 10/22/2013 at 12:00 am. It won't let us change the date unless we pay. We do not want to pay.

The person we donate it to will be chosen November 15th, 2013. We will announce it on the blog November 16th, 2013. They will have 48 hours to get back to us or we will donate the book to a new person.

We do not ship internationally. As it says in our Terms and Conditions. Sorry abroad peeps. Unless you have a US address we can ship it to, you're going to have to sit this one out.

Have fun you guys!

Giveaway: Terrier by Tamora Pierce

So I just got back from seeing my all time favorite author at the library, Tamora Pierce! Ah I love her! You can ask April, I basically cried when I saw she was coming to visit. She was promoting her newest book, Mastiff, which is the 3rd book in the Becca Copper series.

What's great about this series, is that it doesn't really tie in with the other Tortall books she's written, since it takes at least 200 years before Alanna the First Adventure. Which means, all of you haven't had the chance to read Tamora Pierce, can do so now! With the first book! Which we're giving away!

Unfortunately, she hurt her hand so the books were signed by a stamp (which makes it look like her actual sig,) and her fingerprint. But it was totally better than nothing at all.

Guys, she's really funny and fun to listen to. She's not only a batman fan, but she thinks we're all crazy for doing NaNoWriMo. In a good way, of course. I mean I'm crazy, and I haven't even hit 1k words yet. (On a side note, be my writing buddy at nanowrimo.com and my name is cookiesanonymus').

Here's the sypnosis to Terrier:

Tamora Pierce begins a new Tortall trilogy introducing Beka Cooper, an amazing young woman who lived 200 years before Pierce's popular Alanna character. For the first time, Pierce employs first-person narration in a novel, bringing readers even closer to a character that they will love for her unusual talents and tough personality.

Beka Cooper is a rookie with the law-enforcing Provost's Guard, and she's been assigned to the Lower City. It's a tough beat that's about to get tougher, as Beka's limited ability to communicate with the dead clues her in to an underworld conspiracy. Someone close to Beka is using dark magic to profit from the Lower City's criminal enterprises—and the result is a crime wave the likes of which the Provost's Guard has never seen before.

So enter to win! Giveaway goes on to the end of the month, and it's US only!
Be patient as the Rafflecopter giveaway form loads, I promise I did put it up!

Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop!

Welcome to the Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop at Book Away! It's that time of the year where we can all mourn the banning of good books for potential readers and try to raise awareness to fight censorship (in our own bookish ways).

There are those who, as we would like to think, actually do something to fight censorship. Recently, we got an email from Justin Stanley, President of the Uprise Books Project and it caught our attention.

The Uprise Books Project is a newly formed organization dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty through literacy, providing new banned and challenged books to underprivileged teens free of charge. In a nutshell, lower-income middle/high school students will be able to select banned and challenged books on their site and they'll solicit donations from contributors willing to fulfill their requests.

For more information about the Uprise Books Project, check out this article or their kickstart website: The Uprise Books Project.

For more information about Banned and Challenged books in general, visit the ALA website.

Now to the exciting part! Here at Book Away, we're giving away....

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (paperback)
Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott (paperback, different cover than the one pictured below)
Scars by Cheryl Rainfield (hardcover)

There will be at least 1 international winner, who gets to pick which book they would like first :) Number of international winners may change depending on price of shipping, demand, etc. The rest of the books will go to US winners.

*Edit* I (April) wouldn't try to keep anyone away from a book, but I just wanted to give a notice that some of these books are pretty dark, like Living Dead Girl. I read it when I was 15 and even though I enjoyed it, definitely left me shell shocked. So please be aware of the subject matter in a book if you choose it as a prize :) You can read the Goodreads summaries or I can just give a quick non spoilery summary of it. If you really are not interested in the subject matter, we can try to get you a different book. *Edit*

So, whose itching for a chance to win something?

Well you're in luck, cause I'm itching for the chance to give something away!

Seeing as I have the power of over 200 followers (and by I, I mean April and myself) I have decided to use this opportunity to help a good cause.

A close friend of mine is trying to win new band gear for her high school marching band and I've decided to help out.

So vote ( http://pep.si/pcibRD ) now, through the end of September (12 days!) and I'll host a giveaway!

Here's the challenge:

2) If the cause makes it to top 8, I'll giveaway a book. (US)

3) If the cause makes top 5, I'll giveaway a book and some swag. (US)

4) If the cause makes top 2, I'll make the giveaway INTERNATIONAL! (Int)

Yeah, that's right. INTERNATIONAL!

So this is how you vote:

1) Going to this link: http://pep.si/pcibRD

2) Voting by text (learn how to do that http://pep.si/pcibRD )

3) Power vote: the yellow caps that you get off Pepsi bottles. (learn how to do that http://pep.si/pcibRD )

*All links lead you to the same place*

Now remember, I won't hold the giveway unless it makes top 10, so get to voting!

Ally Carter Signing and Surprise!

Okay, so for all you who remember, April and I went to Ally Carter's book signing today!

I recorded the Q&A session for you! But it's sideways, most because I forgot the thing didn't change when I flipped it. And well movie maker isn't allowing me to cut the segement into seperate movies and upload them on youtube. So until that is figured out you'll have to wait for that.

Here's a picture from the St. Louis County Library Flickr page.  We're sitting in the 2nd-ish row.  Karina is sitting behind the girl with the pink ribbon in her hair, and I'm on her left :)
