Waiting on Wednesday (3)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo
Publication: June 5th 2012 by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Pre-Order: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Book Depository
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near-impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one unlikely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life– a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha… and the secrets of her heart.
I know a lot of people probably have/had/will have this on their Waiting on Wednesday posts, but I'm so excited for this book!  I love fantasy books, and this one has gotten great reviews and sounds really original.  I also love the cover and think it's really unique, there's probably enough YA books with girls in dresses in them already.  (Not gonna lie though, I love the girl-in-dress covers!)

So, what book are you waiting for?  Is this one on your list? :)

  1. I have to agree about the cover--I think it's really unique, too. I can't wait to read this one. I've read the prologue and a few pages of the first chapter and it's WONDERFUL. <3 Can't wait to get back to it.

    My WOW.
